Stars/Ducks Rematch

by Beth

This morning, I flash back to that sad April day,
When the Anaheim Ducks abruptly ended our play.
The Stars were up 4-2 and things were looking fine…
Only 2 minutes left, everyone was having a great time!
But as fate would have it, the Ducks would score twice more,
Sending us to overtime…..and then once more they scored.
Out of the Playoffs, we were over and done.
That being said, that round one sure was fun.
Now it is a new season, some things have greatly changed,
New players have come but the sting of defeat remains.
I expect for the fans to be rowdy and loud.
Our boys still have reasons to be proud!
We will be on the lookout for dirty plays tonight,
I expect there will probably be at least one fight.
Corey Perry should wear earplugs to drown out the jeers,
And certainly Getzlaff, Smith-Perry & Maroon won’t get cheers.
The goal of the game is to play smart and be quick,
It’s Halloween, I want treats and no tricks!
The Ducks lost last night, I hope they are tired.
Ours fans will be loud and the crowd will be wired!
This season is still new, so I think we are in luck,
I don’t want any Ducks in the way of our pucks.
Our offense is solid, the defense needs to step up.
We must get closer to lifting the Stanley Cup!

Dallas Stars Season Opener Poem!

by Beth

Opening day is finally here!
Put on your jersey and grab a beer!
The summer was a long but busy one,
Time to test what Jim Nill has done.
The pieces of our puzzle appear to fit just fine, I believe we have four
terrific lines!
Can’t wait to see the magic of Seguin & Benn, And I’m expecting a great year for
Val Nichuskin!
With the awesome addition of Hemsky and Spezza, Our opponents should be fearful!
Yep, you betcha!
Finally got Dillon and Eakin signed,
I really think our Stars are aligned!
I can’t say enough about Fiddler and Roussel.
They give our team a spark, I hope they both do well.
Kari struggled a bit in the pre-season,
But worry? Right now I have no reason.
We fans are super excited and hyped up!
Tonight begins our quest for the Stanley Cup!
GO STARS!

Duck Hunting – March 13, 1998

by Allen Livingston
Stars vs Ducks March 13 1998

I’ve haven’t always hated the Ducks, after all it’s hard to hate a team that you beat on a regular basis (in the 90’s and 00’s).

Well, all of that changed on March 13, 1998… It had been a good game, the Stars were beating the hell outta the ducks five to one in the third period. And then all of a sudden, Luddy put the annoying Finnish Flash, Selanne into the boards, and he collapsed onto the ice in a heap. Yeah, Luddy might have left his feet and he might have used his elbow, but it didn’t look that bad. And pretty soon afterwards, Selanne got up and was fine. He went off to the room, but seemed to be ok.

Anyhow, I’d been talking to a new Stars fan sitting in front of me all through the game, explaining some of the rules and whatnot. Right after the fight they guy said it was time to go, that the Stars had this in the bag. I told him, you never leave a hockey game early! I’m sure after he got home and saw the highlights on ESPN, he regretted his decision.

What happened over the next 30 minutes was pure hockey gold, one of the most fun games I’ve ever been too! There were so many fights, it was ridiculous, the penalty boxes were completely full. From the Pat “little ball of hate” Verbeek to Guy Carbonneau, the Stars were having to defend themselves against a no talent ducks team, that wanted nothing but retribution. When it was all said and done, the ducks had just four players on the ice and two on the bench, if one more had been tossed, they would have forfeited the game.

In case you don’t remember, here’s some great game highlights, via mike8219 on YouTube

Let’s keep the duck hunting going for a few more games and continue to build into Stanley Cup Champions, again!

Game 5 Tonight!!!! It’s gonna be BIG!

by Beth

What a great week this has been!

Our boys came home and got two wins!

Playoff fever has hit my house BIG!

If these boys keep winning, I’ll be dancing a jig!

Game 4 was awesome with four great goals!

There might have been one or two more if they hadn’t hit the post.

What can I say about Jamie Benn?

He makes huge plays again and again.

Our guys are not huge, but they are gritty!

For the baby ducks, I have no pity.

I think Garbutt and Roussel have gotten under their skin,

Ruffled their feathers, even scared away their Fin!

Everybody ropes and everybody rides,

The Stars motto this year and it’s said with pride!

Each player is stepping up their game.

Hopefully within weeks, all will know their names.

Jordie Benn, Eakin, Goligoski and Fiddler….

They are more perplexing to the Ducks than the riddler!

Game 5 tonight will be late again.

Take a nap today, then stay up with your friends.

This is the time of year we never give up…..

The quest continues for the Stanley Cup!!!!

Duck Hunting: Call for Old School Stories

by Jay Leask
Duck Season

It’s Duck Hunting season and this is a SERIES now! Starting tonight it’s best-of-three, a task that doesn’t seem so insurmountable after our two-game homestand. What do you think?

In honor of the best-of-three series what are your favorite Duck Hunting stories? The Finish Flash? The Niedermayer Brothers (Brothers Forever, AMIRITE)? JSG? Nintendo’s Duck Hunt? (I’m a fan of my wife’s duck-noose, personally)

So – what’s your story? Email oldschool@starsasylum.com with your story or if you already have an account on the site post it! We’ll be publishing Duck Hunting stories for the next week.
