Stars Alumni Game and Helping The Stryker Family

Your Dallas Stars take on the Ottawa Senators this Saturday at 2pm. But this isn’t the reason I’m writing up this post. It is what happens next that I want to get out. At 5 pm the puck drops on the Inaugural Dallas Stars Alumni game. We will get to see some  Stars’ Greats play against each other as well as some youth & amateur players from across the area. This will also be an opportunity raise money for area youth hockey org. and to help the Stryker Family from Allen who were devastated by a car accident while traveling to a Tournament in Las Vegas  just before Thanksgiving.

In case you forget about the accident that made headlines right around Thanksgiving. There was a car accident in Arizona that killed both parents as well as their son Travis. His twin brother, Austin, was the only survivor in the accident and has gone through a massive recovery since then. They also have an older sister who’s also a student at Texas A&M University. Part of the funds from this event will go to help the family to continue paying for
his medical costs and for his sister to continue attending classes at Texas A&M University.

One of the best ways that fans can help raise money , is to give a $52 donation to the Stars Alumni Foundation. For this donation you will get a ticket for both the Stars VS. Senators Game & the Alumni Game. You will also be entered in a drawing for prizes like a Stars signed team jersey, 4 tickets to the Stars Alumni Suite that night, and a suite night for one of the Stars Remaining Regular Season Games. Get some big crowds together to help this family out and to support area youth and amateur hockey associations as well.

As for the team that both Austin & Travis played for called the DJHA Penguins U16AA team. Not only have they been able to continue to have a very strong season. But have recently been able to qualify for the USA Hockey U16 Tier 2 National Championships. They were able to be  extremely dominant in the Dallas Stars Travel Hockey League (DSTHL) this
season. In addition to a perfect 20-0 season in the U16AA Division, they were able to sweep the league & state playoffs that have been taken place in recent weeks. The Penguins were unbeaten in the Semifinal Round Robin where they won all four games and swept the Allen Jr. Americans in a best-of-three series for the League Title. Then for the TAHA State
Championship, the team won all four games which included a three game round robin and then defeated the Allen Jr. Americans again in the State Final.

However, the big highlight of the season came in the Silver Stick Tournament. The Rocky Mountain Regional Silver Stick Tournament was the event that the Stryker Family that they were traveling to when the accident happen. After making the tough decision to decide if they were going to play or not. Not only did the Penguins decide to go forward but ended up winning the event. Then on MLK Weekend, they were able to advance to their Silver Stick North American Midget AA Championships where they were able to advance all the way to the
Semifinals of the event.

They’re now preparing for the USA Hockey U16 Tier 2 National Championships in Reston, VA. which will be taking place from April 2nd through 6th. The USA Hockey Tier 2 Tournament’s are divided into three levels with the different state champions getting placed on things like their season record’s, their tournament resume and how competitive the competition in
their league & state was over the course of the season. With the DJHA Penguins impressive record and resume. They should easily be placed in the 3A Tournament which is the highest level.

Here’s the Links for both the Stars Alumni Game & the DJHA Penguins Team as they prepare for the National Championships next month.

The accident was in Nevada at the Grand Canyon and Austin is Travis’ twin brother. And Travis will be playing in the alumni game. He was recently released to play.

  2. Austin Stryker says:

This is a great article, but just FYI the crash was in Arizona.
